Creating partnerships. Transforming health.

About us

Options Nepal works in partnership with donors, government and NGOs to improve the delivery of health services. We understand how to work effectively with government systems, and can draw on relationships established over many years.

Our focus is on enabling equitable access to health services through tried and tested approaches that are grounded in the reality of working at community level. We also work in areas closely related to the health sector, including infrastructure, WASH, nutrition, and local government strengthening. We apply knowledge and experience effectively to drive sustainable change.

Our national, regional and international health professionals, combined with a successful track record in providing expertise enables us to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate successful health programmes. Whilst our focus is on improving health in Nepal, our team also has experience in India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bhutan, Laos, Bangladesh and Tibet.

“Dang Hospital is providing exemplary support to gender-based violence survivors and has embraced the One Stop Crisis Management Centres in its system. The OCMC addresses survivors’ multi-faceted needs in a supportive and encouraging way."

Our History

Options has worked in Nepal since 1997.  Our origins are in maternal and newborn health, and whilst this remains a core part of our work, our impact now reaches far beyond this. We have worked at all levels from national to district, and through local communities, to support the delivery of successive Nepal Health Sector Programmes.  We established a national office to continue our commitment to sustainable improvements in health and wellbeing in Nepal, including areas most affected by the recent earthquakes, and more widely in the region.

"Nepal is reported to have experienced a significant decline in its maternal mortality ratio. The DFID-supported Nepal Safe Motherhood Project (1997–2004) and Support to Safe Motherhood Programme (2004–2009) were credited by witnesses as playing a key role in this reduction"
